Yes, my 13th great grandfather was William Shakespeare's grandfather, Richard Shakespeare! Richard Shakespeare, a tenant farmer, had two sons, Thomas (my relative) and Sir John (William's father).
I used Ancestry to trace my family and I also visited Stratford on Avon. Fortunately, there were males in each generation, so the name Shakespeare was easy to follow. I learned about several interesting characters in the family, including "Old Edward” Shakespeare because at the ripe old age of 40, he had a son and decided to move to his new wife's village in the early 1700's.
While researching for my first book, PERSONAL FAITH by Walter Jay (penname), I studied satellite topographical maps and matched the ancient riverbeds to the actual rivers named in Genesis to describe the Garden of Eden. That was a startling discovery and I have been wanting to share this idea. When Barb Bouse and I reconnected at a high school reunion, we started talking about writing a book based on that discovery. We created the first two characters and the basic story about Michael Walters and Ariana Abbas who would work together on an international project to solve a drought in the Middle East. Serendipitously, they discover the location of the Garden of Eden and the adventure begins.
As a PhD myself, I can relate to Michael's educational, social and family struggles. I share Michael's belief that the Bible is true, even if allegorical, and that one of the largest deserts in the world can be returned to a vast, lush tropical paradise. I've included new technologies (as yet unpatented) in the book to create a sense of realism and possibility.
